More Than 70 Years of Service

As a third-generation, family-owned real estate company, Brown Development has been devoted for more than 70 years to providing affordable, quality apartment living. Aldon Management, the property management subsidiary of Brown Development, is firmly committed to family values in its business practices as we endeavor to treat all of our residents with honesty and respect, and we take great pride in the hard work of our staff in upholding these values.

Our Company’s History

In the 1930s, brothers Alvin and Donald Brown joined the original Brown family company. At the time, the company was playing a key role in the revitalization of the region’s post-World War 1 housing shortage caused by inadequate construction during the Great Depression, and later fueled by the growing population surge as service personnel returned and the “baby boom” generation took off. The company became active in the real estate business, building and selling houses and managing the apartments they built to fill the need for affordable, quality living options.

Alvin and Donald later partnered and went on to build thousands of homes and multifamily residential apartments throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area. Aldon Management, formed in 1947 by Alvin and Donald (and their names inspiring the company namesake), would go on to serve as the company’s subsidiary property management arm.

The Future of Brown Development

In 2015, with many of the assets in the portfolio reaching the end of their useful lives, the Brown family recognized the time for redevelopment was fast approaching and began a restructuring process that would last for the next few years. By 2018, the original Alvin and Donald Partnership was reorganized with a new Board consisting of Brown family members and outside seasoned experts to take the helm and establish a new team of professionals to operate, redevelop and manage the portfolio for the future. Today, Brown Development LLC oversees the entire portfolio, while property management remains the role of Aldon Management, and redevelopment is led by Aldon Properties; both wholly-owned subsidiaries of Brown.
